Emotions
-Moments with Moss-
In my classroom, we would take time to learn life lessons. We would have conversations revolving around the pressures of life and celebrate the big wins! Today I want to spend a moment with you, the adults. Whether you are an educator, in a leadership role, or a parent of a child who will be leaving school for summer break….this inspiration is for you.
Emotions are like a creek bed. With every rocky surface the water flow is disrupted, changing its directed path. As simple as it is for water to redirect and navigate a new pathway, humans maneuver very differently with much more difficulty.
As the end of the school year comes to a close, I’ve seen my own children in a different light since I am not in a classroom anymore. Our kids have deep feelings with the transition of change, and it is our job as parents to help them navigate the waters of the next chapter we call summer. Parents, please pay attention to the signals your child is giving you. Remember, in May that your child needs adequate sleep, a lot of water, and a lot of love! Teachers, please show each child they are heard, seen, and valued. Some students are struggling with the fact they are losing their safe spot. School is a respite for them, and they have to live 2 solid months without it. Their emotions are just like the water being navigated to new places in the creek bed. Give your students the chance to process those emotions without judgement. You make a difference every single day. You have the power to change the path of a child for the better- use it wisely. Leaders, please don’t forget the battle your teachers have been through since August. They have shown up, and shined brightly the entire school year amidst their own personal daily struggles. Give them grace these last few days/weeks as they are also dealing with big emotions. The keyword is grace.
I hope you continue to shine in all you do! Grace- it is for everyone.
Light and Love-
