Let it Go
There are quite a few songs in our history in which the phrase "let it go" has rung true to our ears. However, none have even come close to the popularity of the Frozen Queen Elsa. In her desperate plea to rid herself of all the extra weight she carries in the present, and carried in the past, she accepts her life as is and makes her anthem, "Let it go,"
It is so hard in our world today to let things go. What does that look like?
Cue the James Bay melody:
“So come on, let it go
Just let it be
Why don't you be you
And I'll be me?Everything that's broke
Leave it to the breeze
Why don't you be you
And I'll be me?
And I'll be me”
His lyrics ring so true to me right now. I’m working on being present, and living in the moment. There is no better gift I can give myself or my friends and family than just living in the moment and allowing myself to fully participate in anything I’m doing. My friends, whatever you’re holding onto, let it go, let it be. There’s no room for all the extra baggage- travel through this world lightly. Be real with yourself and allow the things that weigh you down and don’t support you to float away.
What are you holding onto right now? What do you think you could be brave enough to set down and let it fly from your fingers like the ice and snow did from Elsa’s? When you have realized what you need to let go of, I hope you will take the next steps to fully allow yourself space to grow and release whatever is weighing you down.
A Few Steps Towards Letting Go:
Give yourself permission to say no to others. As a recovering “people pleaser”, I have found my happiness lies in the balance I have found in my life. You do not have to justify why you’re saying no, nor do you have to feel guilty for it.
Do not take on more than you can handle. Sometimes letting go starts with never starting something in the first place. Do not overcommit yourself into a place of burn out.
Ask for help. Remind yourself that you have amazing, wonderful people surrounding you who want to see you succeed in life. Ask those people (your biggest fans) to help support you as you let go of things which no longer serve you.
Do not replace a responsibility once it has been relinquished!!!! I cannot stress this enough. When you empty your plate, don’t go back to the buffet and fill it back up. Allow space and time for reflection before starting your next move.
I hope you can lay some heavy things down friends. You’ve got this. Be present, here and now. Continue to dare greatly!
Light and Love-
Amber
