“I’m a movement that roars and springs, there’s a wave where my change sings.”-Amanda Gorman
If you haven’t picked up a copy of Amanda Gorman’s new children’s book, “Change Sings”, you are completely missing out! Not only are the illustrations stunningly beautiful, but Amanda has perfectly put every phrase of this book seamlessly together. This is the anthem we need right now in the world.
Did you know a wave is a disturbance that transfers energy from one place to another? Waves can transfer energy over distance without moving matter the entire distance. Water moves up and down—a motion known as a disturbance. It is the disturbance that travels in a wave, transferring energy.
I’ve really been thinking a lot about how waves work for the past 6 months. A wave is a disturbance. What? Read that again. A wave is a disturbance. A wave stops what is currently acceptable and known to be standard and shakes things up a bit. Not only does the wave shake things up, but it take energy from one place and puts it in another- sometimes not all of it- sometimes parts of energy are left along the way. Whoah friends- I’m not sure how you’re feeling reading this, but as I’m alone with my thoughts, I am completely enamored with the idea of the metaphor of the wave in context of “where my change sings”. My song is constantly being sung day in and day out as I transfer my energy to those around me. I am setting waves in motion I didn’t even know existed and that is AMAZING! I can’t even fathom the impact we could all create if we were roaring and springing our songs to life day in and day out.
I am constantly looking to improve myself through change, even though it’s uncomfortable. The idea of transferring energy from one place to the next through my life’s song leaves me giddy. I want to be the wave maker- transferring positive energy from place to place and leaving behind light and love along the way.
If you are in a tough spot right now, and you just feel stuck- know this- do NOT stay stagnant. It’s okay to rest a while, but when there are no waves in the water, what happens? When you stay stuck and complacent (no waves churning) the water gets icky- not just a little gross- I’m talking algae, mud, maybe even a dead fish or two. Stagnant is not a place for you friend. You are amazing, brilliant, and so intelligent. Even if you need to be still for a little bit to get through this season, make sure you take time to ripple the water. Maybe I can be a wave in your journey. Take what you need- grow from here.
I hope today finds you in a place where you can create some waves through your own life’s song.
Be loud, be bold, and SING the change you want to see in the world.
Light and Love-
Amber
