Nothing good…
Yesterday after lunch, my oldest child took a sip of my iced coffee. He immediately regretted his decision after the bitter coffee with a touch of sweetness hit his lips through the straw. I laughed and asked, “Did you just drink my coffee'‘? His response was epic….
“I just needed to make sure there was nothing good about it.”
I could not stop laughing! What a moment in time to remember. His words are still resonating with me this morning. Sometimes in life, we need to try things so that we know there is absolutely nothing good about it. As a parent, this is the scariest place I’ve ever been in. Why is it in our human nature for us to test limits and experience the bad, just to make sure there wasn’t anything good? I worry about the teenage years and the moments he will need to experience things. However, I know without a shadow of a doubt, he has the right foundation to continue to know what is good, what is true, and what is noble, even if he experiences the bad along with it.
I am hopeful that the next generation will find the good (even if it’s mixed with the bad) and become the greater good of the world. I believe this next generation will rise from the ashes and be world changers for goodness. The biggest opportunity for growth that I can possibly think of is making sure there isn’t good in something. When we experience life from the lens of “finding the good”, we can see what we really want out of this world.
Take time out of your week this week to do one thing for others that you wouldn’t normally do (whether it’s due to finances, time management, resources, etc). Find a way to make someone else’s day better just by being better yourself. Grow through goodness!
Light and Love-
